The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo
If you've been awake and aware of your surroundings for the past year, then someone has mentioned The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo to you. If you haven't heard of it...then you might want to check your pulse, this was the biggest best seller of the year and everyone (including me) has read the book! But, I know that some of you out there aren't really readers...so, for you guys, the Swedish movie is here on DVD...you'll still have to read (subtitles) but it's less reading than a book! And, trust me, it's worth your time and effort!
Now, for you book lovers, this is the movie you want to see. Don't wait for the American version, even if you hate subtitles, this movie is a wonderful companion to the book, and doesn't flinch away from the 'bad' parts. And, for those of you who haven't read the book, this is an amazing mystery that will have you on the edge of your seat until the end...here's the story:
A middle aged reporter in Sweden has been accused of libeling a big company. He's then contacted by an aging businessman who says that he has information that will clear the reporter...but there's a little work he needs to be done first. Soon, the reporter is on the case of a 30 year old murder mystery. It seems that the businessman's niece disappeared 30 years ago and hasn't been seen since. If our intrepid reporter can spend a year on the case, the businessman promises to give him the information that he has!
Soon, the reporter comes to the attention to a hacker who's been doing work for the businessman too. Only, this hacker, is a goth chick who's got more than a few issues of her own. This is the infamous Lisbeth Salander...the girl of dragon tattoo fame. Soon, the reporter and the hacker find themselves an unlikely duo, attempting to find out what happened to the businessman's niece and if that disappearance is connected to a serial killer that they believe is working in the area!
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is one of the best movies of last year. It's a wonderfully written mystery that remains true to the book, even in parts where you might want to look away...and there are part where you'll want to look away, there's some horrific violence in here that's integral to the plot...and will help us set up the two sequels that are on the way.
I'm giving The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo 4 out of 4 cigars, it's a great movie based on a great book...and after seeing the movie, you'll want to grab the book, just to see what they missed! And, you'll find yourself on line for the sequels too! So, until next time, when I'll tell you about my 'tramp stamp' and how drunk I was when I got it...remember that there's no such thing as a bad movie!
