The Descent Part 2

If you've heard me talk about movies in the past couple of years, then you know that The Descent is one of may all time favorite horror movies.  It's scary, claustrophobic and has totally believable characters, which makes the movie damn near perfect in my book!  Well, when I saw that the sequel had hit DVD, I was a bit apprehensive.  Why mess with what I considered to be perfection?  Well, director Jon Harris and company have acquitted themselves nicely, this is a sequel that not only picks up where the original left off...but manages to up the ante without destroying the greatness that spawned it!

Part 2 picks up pretty much where we left off in Part 1.  Sarah wandering the roadside after having found her way out of the hell-pit.  She's taken to the hospital and we discover that the authorities are actually looking for the group from the first movie, but they're looking where the first group had told people they would be...remember, they filed a 'flight plan' and then travelled to an unexplored cave to explore!  Well, since this has been a media nightmare, the local authorities decide to keep this new cave site under wraps, so a small group of spelunkers head down to the original cave and are soon set upon by the monsters from below!  And, survival becomes a priority once again!
The beauty of The Descent Part 2 is that it follows in the path of the original.  The characters are well drawn...with the exception of the sheriff, who's a bit of a caricature...the story is great and the ending will leave you screaming at the TV screen!  There's plenty of blood and gore and lots of the claustrophobic scares that the original had and it ups the ante enough that I can't wait for The Descent Part 3!
I'm giving The Descent Part 2 4 out of 4 cigars, it's great, it's taut and it's an amazing tale that will leaving you wanting more!!
